As you’re all very well aware, March is the month when we collectively celebrate the accomplishments of women throughout the history of aviation. And, it’s so well deserved.
Everyone is familiar with the contributions Harriet Quimby, Bessie Coleman, Amelia Earhart, Jacqueline Cochran, Olive Ann Beech, Moya Lear and countless overs have made to all of aviation over the years. If you aren’t, you should be!
Yet, as noteworthy as their accomplishments are, they’re just a tiny fraction of all that those tens of thousands of women have, will, and are making throughout all sectors of private, business, commercial, and military aviation.
Plus, there are also the, I believe well-underappreciated women who served as Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs) during World War II. Growing up, one of my friend’s grandmothers flew B-17s, -24s, and Lockheed P-38s from the U.S. to Europe in support of front-line pilots.
As much I was in awe of her accomplishments then, it is even more amazing to me now. I’m sure you’ll agree that every one of them was as much a “hero” as anyone who flew in combat.
As far as anyone here at Bluetail is concerned, you can’t celebrate all the collective contributions that women have made to aviation during this or any other single page on the calendar.
We have and will continue to do our small part by highlighting the accomplishments of today’s women in aviation. Our goal is to help educate and inspire young women today and encourage them to follow their dream where ever it takes them in aviation.
We kicked off our commitment this month by profiling three great women in aviation:
They’re all great women with wonderful stories to tell. If you haven’t seen the postings, check them out at: bluetail.aero/women-in-aviation.
If you are a woman working in any part of aviation or know of someone, who has a story to share, please let me know by sending an email to social@bluetail.aero
The very diverse Bluetail team will pick one per month to share their story with our legions of readers. Really, people do read and share this stuff. Amazing!
