Soulbird Flight School
Soulbird, a part of Oklahoma Aviation, operates a growing flight school fleet of 10 aircraft, including Diamond, Cirrus, and Cessna models. Known for high-quality flight instruction and safety standards, the school trains student pilots at all levels—many of whom must demonstrate airworthiness knowledge during checkrides. Until recently, the team relied on traditional, paper-based logbooks with sticky-note tabs to support this critical training requirement.
Paper logbooks presented multiple risks and inefficiencies: fragile records, disorganized entries, and cumbersome processes when students needed to locate key maintenance documents like 100-hour inspections or pitot/static checks. DPEs (Designated Pilot Examiners) required students to locate these records during checkrides, and failure to do so could cost students both time and money. Worse, logbooks had to be physically handed over and transported in the aircraft—adding risk of loss or damage and interrupting maintenance operations.
Bluetail allowed Soulbird to bring its entire maintenance record system into the digital age. All records were scanned, organized, and stored securely in Bluetail’s cloud-based platform. Using shared tablets, students could access read-only versions of logbooks anytime—at home, at the airport, or even during off-site exams. A dedicated “Ramp Check” section was created to highlight essential inspection entries, while Bluetail’s MACH Search made it easy to locate any supplemental records on demand.
Maintenance teams gained full digital access too, eliminating the need to physically transport records or retrieve documents during off-hours. With every entry now searchable and securely stored, the physical logbooks remained safely archived in one place—never needing to leave the facility.
